Scientific Atlanta was a manufacturer of cable television, broadband, Internet Protocol television and telecommunications equipment based in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Founded in 1951 by a group of Georgia Institute of Technology engineers, Scientific Atlanta pioneered and dominated the satellite-based distribution model in the cable television industry.¹⁾ At the time of its acquisition by Cisco Systems in 2005, Scientific Atlanta had been listed as a Fortune 500 company and was one of the top 25 largest corporations in Georgia.
